MLLS wishes our members a happy spring and extends our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who helped make the 2013 Monte Carlo Casino Night fundraiser in support of Liberty House and Mid-Valley Women's Crisis Service a huge success! We had a great time and will be announcing our final fundraising results soon. MLLS and WUCL present an ethics workshop with Helen Hierschbiel from the Oregon State Bar. Helen will discuss recent developments in the field of ethics and introduce John Gleason, who recently joined the OSB as Disciplinary Counsel and Director of Regulatory Services. Mr. Gleason hails from Colorado, where he previously served for 25 years as head of the Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel for the Colorado Supreme Court. We look forward to meeting Mr. Gleason and learning about how his Oregon work compares with his experiences in Colorado. Please join us!
The MLLS Lunchtime CLE is $15 for OWLS members; $20 for non-OWLS members; $10 for Judicial Clerks; and free to students, WUCL staff and professors, and to those not seeking CLE credit. Brownbag lunches are encouraged.

Road to the Bench Discussion with the Honorable Claudia Burton, the Honorable Mary James, the Honorable Tracy Prall and Liani Reeves Tuesday, May 21 at 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm Courtroom of Judge Burton, Marion County Circuit Court 1st floor 100 High Street, Salem OR 97301 For those contemplating a career on the bench to those who appear in front of the bench, this discussion will offer attendees an opportunity to ask questions in an informal and friendly atmosphere. Please join us as our honorable guests from the Marion County Court share their stories and thoughts. Liani Reeves, of the Office of the Governor, will also be on hand to to provide insights into the appointment process. This program is sponsored by the Mary Leonard Law Society, Courthouse Connections, the Marion County Bar Association, and the OWLS Judicial Workgroup.
This program will be preceded by the Mary Leonard Law Society general elections for the 2013-2014 Board Term.
There are several openings on the MLLS board, and we encourage any MLLS members who are interested in filling a position or who have questions about board membership to email us at [email protected]. Serving on the MLLS board is a great way to network, to get involved in the Salem area legal community, and to promote the MLLS mission of transforming the practice of law and ensuring justice and equality by advancing women and minorities in the legal profession. MLLS offers monthly meetings from September through May each year. Meetings feature presentations by guest speakers, CLEs, social gatherings, and volunteer opportunities. The MLLS board also meets once a month from September through May. Both general meetings and board meetings are typically held on weekdays over the noon hour.
